Hey Cayuga County...one of my favorite sayings that rings true in so many different life situations…and has been both used and validated throughout history is..."Those Who Do Not Remember The Past Are Condemned To Repeat It."
For those people who are not from Cayuga County, NY, you can read about the soldier in the image below…whose name is Copper John. Cooper John keeps a look out over the Auburn Correctional Facility The Auburn Correctional Facility is a maximum security state prison located on 135 State St, Auburn, NY 13021 (GPS 40.741895,-73.989308).
This prison was built on land that is the Cayuga (Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ, "People of the Great Swamp") village. The Cayuga are one of the five original Nations of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), a confederacy of Native Americans in New York.
Just for the record…the recently closed Wells College is also built upon Cayuga Nation land. Fortunately, there is an effort to remember the past by setting a good example for the future with the Revitalization of Wells College.
