Useful Links For EH&S Professionals
After seeing Peter Reinhart’s announcement of the American Chemical Society Committee (ACS) on Chemical Safety recently published tip sheets, it reminded me to share links to other safety resources. Over the years as I met young environmental health and safety (EH&S) professionals, I would usually send them a follow up email with a list of useful resources to help them get started. This list is by no means all inclusive, however, these are good links to have bookmarked as resources for environmental health and safety professionals:
ACS Chemical Health & Safety – an excellent journal packed with articles and links to resources. I highly recommended having access to this journal. Many universities already have a subscription to this very informative journal.
The ACS Center For Lab Safety – Document Archive – an extensive listing of resources including links to other national safety organizations.
The ACS Booklet – Safety In Academic Chemistry Laboratories - an excellent resource and long-standing resource.
The National Academies Press - free pdf downloads – search for safety.
Prudent Practices in the Laboratory - Handling and Management of Chemical Hazards, Updated Version (2011) – in my personal opinion, this is a must read for any EH&S professional.
US Chemical Safety Board – check out their videos.
ASTDR - What Are Additional Environmental Health Resources? - has numerous links to other government agencies.
CDC - Lab Safety Portal - has various lab safety links.
CDC Resources for Environmental Health Professionals - a listing of resources by topic.
Dow Safety Resources – numerous online courses and guidance documents.
NIGMS - Laboratory Safety Training and Guidelines - numerous videos and useful links.
Useful listservs (there are many others out there)

The UC Center For Lab Safety - an incredible resource with numerous links and is a wealth of information.
Lab Safety Institute - offers numerous training programs and links to resources.
The State University of New York (SUNY) - Lab Safety and Other Resources - provides an extensive list of resources and programs.
The Cornell University Laboratory Safety Manual - I still have my handwritten manuscript…so no apologies for being biased about this document!
