Young Professionals and Community Activists...Work From The Inside Out
Young Professionals and Community Activists...you don't always have to get into an elected political position or paid government position to influence and implement social and cultural change. While this can be very successful, it can also be a steep hill to climb given the corrupt campaign financing…however, sometimes those who are elected do keep to their word…so all hope is not lost.
Another effective way to influence and implement social and cultural change is to start from the ground up and work your way into the system that you want to change (company, organization, country, solar system, etc.) and then make changes from the inside out. It takes longer to accomplish and can involve more pain and suffering, however, the results can be much father reaching and longer lasting. However, the elected leaders in power have the force of power, so chipping away at the support structures at the foundations of such empires can be very effective from the inside out.
Applying and accepting a position with the National Park Service or any other government job...gets your foot in the door for other government positions and then be able to apply for jobs listed for internal candidates only, as well opening in various other government organizations.
There is nothing wrong with job hopping in this manner if you are giving your 110% to your current employer and you are giving your manager and their manager the time to recognize your efforts. Give your 110% effort and accomplish the goals you set out for that position and whatever priority goals your manager had wanted...or at least as far as you could get working within the system. As you are moving forward doing that, continue to give them more of your sustained and productive efforts. Give them a fair and reasonable time for them to respond in-kind with career development for you. As a general rule of thumb, two to three years are good numbers to use as a guideposts. If after what you determined to be fair and reasonable combined with open communication with your manager....and they still either choose to take no action...then start applying for other positions.
Keep in mind that not everyone gets to be promoted to be manager or a director of an organization and making 6 figures after having just graduated from college and gaining one or two years of work experience. For the rest of us mere mortals, it took years of effort to build our careers one step at a time while taking an active role in developing our own careers with the support of our managers.
Career development includes things like being supported to attend conferences and professional development workshops, being permitted to use work-time to participate in volunteer and charitable activities, job shadowing opportunities, flexibility with work schedules when taking college courses – especially ones that are not related to current job responsibilities, attending local professional network events, and yes…a nice raise and new job title accompanying additional job responsibilities is always a bonus. However, at least in my professional book of life…raises and new job titles did not have nearly the same level of high value compared to what those other career development opportunities had for me over the long-term. Fortunately I observed and recognized that early in my career and would recommend young professionals out there do the same.
Don’t worry about the money as there is an “Ironic Secret” about money. The “Ironic Secret” of money is:
…the harder you try not to make more money and not allowing it to corrupt your life….
(resisting greed and being rewarded for your GOOD efforts)
…the harder money keeps following you throughout your personal and professional life…and trying to make you greedy and corrupt…
…then the more money you try to spend and give away to charitable organizations and to support GOOD efforts….just results in more money chasing after you…
…and so this GOOD cycle continues for those people out there who are in the “know”…regardless of their age.
The “Ironic Secret” of money is actually pretty funny when you really think about it because it happens around us all of the time. Thankfully.
Too bad I can't dive anymore...however...if I was a young professional looking for cool job...the one below looks very cool!
The most important thing to do is to find a job and career that feeds your passion and allows you to have a multiplier effect on doing GOOD things in whatever career field you choose to pursue.
The second most important thing is to make sure the company or organization you are working for has some sort of ethical boundaries…otherwise…you will end up working as a government employee in a place like Cayuga County, NY….and you definitely do not want that given their current corrupt government and legal system.
Before you spend the time and energy submitting applications, do a quick internet search and look at multiple news sources to get an idea of the community you are considering starting a new career and growing as a person.
Unfortunately Cayuga County, NY continues to keep it’s head buried in the sand regarding its very serious government and legal corrupt that is so well organized that a book or screenplay will be coming out of this one indeed. Here are some recent articles to save those high quality, young professionals out there some research time and energy:
Cayuga County legislator's plan to boost recruitment called 'woke stuff,' narrowly passes, November 28, 2024.
This is a GOOD Brian who was in attendance at the Cayuga County Community Event that I also attended in Auburn, NY on September 25, 2024.
“Cayuga County clerk has 'deep concerns' with proposed DMV job cuts”, November 23, 2024.
The budget cuts are just starting and will get substantially worse once the Class Action Lawsuit Against Cayuga County, NY gets initiated.
