Creating Your Own Future By Forward Thinking
Abraham Lincoln was definitely a man ahead of his time and the quote on the cover image really does simplify his words of wisdom…“The Best Way to Predict the Future is to Create It.”
I was reminded of this quote when I read the article “Sweden updates its Cold War-era preparedness booklet”.
I thought it was nice to see Sweden stepping up to the plate for its citizens and leading the way again with an excellent idea to update their brochure “In Crisis or War”. Although I do not speak Swedish, I was able to figure out the message they were trying to convey in this easy to read and simple, and very important document for the protection of their citizens and other members of their communities. After a little more searching, I was able to find the English version from a Home Preparedness website listed as “Emergency Information From Swedish Authorities”.
The updated version of the brochure “In case of crisis or war” can be downloaded from this Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency website and the brochure is also available in other languages as well. I really appreciated the simplicity and usefulness of this document.
Here is another article written about this document as well that was posted on LinkedIn by Kevin B. on November 29, 2018 called “If Crisis or War Comes: an example of mass communication and preparedness”.
After glancing through the “In case of crisis or war” brochure, I was reminded of the Emergency Response Guidebook from the standpoint of its “simplistic effectiveness” as I described in this article on the Emergency Response Guidebook.
In both cases for the brochure and guidebook, I would put these documents in the category of “forward-thinking”. The concept of “forward-thinking” can really be applied to any situation or particular problem and in my personal opinion, is something that has been lacking in the minds of government leaders, politicians, and the those that support them. Unfortunately, the world continues to rely on short-term thinking at the expense of future generations. Hence the need for a country like Sweden and others to be “forward-thinking” in not burying their heads in the sand and taking proactive ACTION in the best interest of their citizens.
Here is another interesting article that was posted on LinkedIn by Samuel Ignacio Larios on June 18, 2024 called “Forward-Thinking. A quick overview!”. He does a nice job outlining the various aspects of what it means to be “forward-thinking”. I personally believe that if only 1% of the current world population changed their mindset, beliefs, values, decision-making, and most importantly…actions that are taken…based on “forward-thinking” as opposed to short-term “backward-thinking”…then we would all be living in a very different world today and one upon which preparations for war and survival of the fittest would not have been on the center stage of life as it has been for most of humanity’s existence…with no end in sight until a major emergency or incident happens…like a third World War…one that will be known as “The War to impress all wars.”…and you can feel free to quote me on that one.
While I continue to keep the faith and maintain hope that at some point people will wake up to what is going on with the existing mindset of those who are currently in power. I continue to hope that people see that those who thrive on a “backward-thinking mindset”, will do whatever they need to do to stay in power and impose their wills upon the rest of us with the continued violations and removal of our freedoms and civil liberties…until they own us too.
History has repeated itself over and over with numerous examples of the World sitting back watching global train wrecks lining themselves up with the last chapter of the story well-known…yet people in general need a wake up call in order to finally take ACTION. Unfortunately, history has also shown that humans in general are hard to wake up until a World War breaks out and then their sons, daughters, family and friends’ time, energy, money, attention, and shattered hopes and dreams get filled with the horrors of war.
In the interim until such time when humanity finally wakes up, here are some articles meant to provide some hope, inspiration, and a positive future…or not.
